Lavender painting
Hey guys!
I thought I would show you what I painted today. This was just a quick piece, done freehand, with no sketching prior to the painting. This was done more for practise than anything else so I expected nothing from it, but I like how it turned out. I wanted to make the lavender and the ground quite textured and I feel I achieved that! I again used a minimal palette, of yellow ochre, mauve, violet, sap green, and raw sienna.
I used a rigger brush to achieve the look of the lavender stalks, a (quite dry) hog hair fan brush to achieve the bushy lavender, and I blended the sap green with a bit of yellow ochre and a standard round tip paintbrush. As it was such a quick piece I don't feel the need to add sky as it was only for practise. Hope you enjoy!

Frozen Lake Seascape
Hello my loves!
Today I thought I'd share with you my new painting.
This one was a lot of fun to do, as I used only a very minimal palette of cadmium yellow, alizarin crimson, and ultramarine blue, to create this frozen lake sunset seascape.
I love how it turned out, and I used a few new techniques to create it, which kept it very interesting; and as it's only A5 size it was finished in under an hour.

The Girl in the rain
Hi everyone!
So, today I thought I would share with you my favourite piece of my artwork.
I've entitled it 'The Girl in the rain', and it's composed of bright watercolours, a simplified style, and the suggestion of light shadowing.

I've entitled it 'The Girl in the rain', and it's composed of bright watercolours, a simplified style, and the suggestion of light shadowing.
I started a vague sketch last night, and the more detail I added, the more I could see it forming, and although it really wasn't meant to be anything, I love the way it turned out.
I used a very simplified watercolour palette of yellow ochre, alizarin crimson, cerulean blue, sap green, vermillion, burnt umber, and titanium white.
I hope you enjoy it!

Hi!
I'm Sam, 24, and currently residing in the beautiful Highlands of Scotland. I'm a mother of a two year old, Rhys, I'm a Waitress in a busy café, and I've recently been lucky enough to take the time to really focus on one of the greatest loves of my life - Painting!
I have loved painting watercolour since I was sixteen, but my relationship with art has always been on/off, and art is subject to finding the inspiration and motivation required for each piece.
I'm self taught, and have never had a painting class in my life! The main reason that I wanted to create this blog was for two reasons. I wanted somewhere on the Internet I could store my work, and it might inspire anyone who stumbles across it. the second reason, is my son. I always wanted to teach him art, so that he would have a positive outlet to express himself. but I can't teach him what I don't know, so I thought I would take up art and improve my own abilities and confidence, for my own happiness, and to pass on my knowledge in the future.
So, this is where I'm going to upload any of my work for anyone to see! I hope you enjoy it!
